Good news: GoRecycle offers a free fridge and freezer pickup service in Montréal and Laval!
What is GoRecycle’s doorstep collection service?
GoRecycle’s doorstep collection service lets you dispose of your end-of-life cooling appliances right from your dwelling, at no cost and with no purchase required.
It’s a simple solution that ensures more than 95% of the materials in your appliance are recycled in an environmentally responsible way.
Who is eligible for the free collection service?
The service is available to residents of the island of Montréal and Laval.
To be considered eligible, the residence where your appliance will be picked up must be located in Montréal or Laval.
What types of appliances are eligible?
- Refrigerators
- Freezers
- Wine coolers
- Water dispensers
- Portable or windows air conditioners
- Dehumidifiers
In Laval only, window or portable air conditioners, dehumidifiers and water coolers are also accepted.
How much does the service cost?
The service is completely free! Thanks to one of GoRecycle’s six recycling partners, cooling appliances can be collected and over 95% of their materials are recycled.
Why recycle instead of leaving the appliance by the curb?
Cooling appliances contain a large volume of halocarbons–pollutants that are harmful to the environment if not properly disposed of. By recycling your end-of-life appliance with GoRecycle, you:

How does doorstep collection work?
To take advantage of the free, eco-friendly doorstep pickup service, follow these 5 simple steps:
- Empty your appliance
- Label it “GoRecycle”
- Seal the doors with tape
- Place it outside your dwelling, but not on the sidewalk
- Only put it out the night before or morning of scheduled pickup, no earlier
That’s all! Your appliance will be picked up on the scheduled date.

Putting it out the night before or morning of maximizes your chances that it will be recovered and recycled properly by GoRecycle. GoRecycle is the only organization mandated by RECYC-QUÉBEC to recycle cooling appliances in Quebec.

If your address isn’t in the service area, you can still recycle your appliance responsibly by:
- Dropping it off at one of GoRecycle’s 400 drop-off points across Quebec
- Taking advantage of the removal service when buying a new appliance from a participating retailer
- Checking whether your municipality offers a municipal appliance home collection service
- Participating in a collection event near you
