GoRéemploi initiative launches in Quebec: a national first in appliance reuse

Press Release | By GoRecycle |

Montreal, May 14, 2024 – GoRecycle, the organization recognized by RECYC-QUEBEC for responsible recycling of household cooling appliances, marks a turning point in its environmental commitment with the official launch of GoRéemploi. This initiative, the first of its kind in Canada, aims to give a second life to cooling appliances, thereby reducing waste and contributing to the fight against climate change.

GoRéemploi has already secured the support of over 30 partners from diverse regions including Greater Montreal, National Capital, Eastern Townships, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, and the Laurentians. These partners are committed to best practices in reselling used appliances. They offer consumers reliable, professionally restored, and warrantied products, ensuring both quality and regulatory compliance. These trusted partners can be easily located through an interactive map on the GoRecycle website.

By choosing to purchase their devices from the GoRéemploi partner, customers benefit from increased confidence, knowing that these partners have committed to offering functional products, free from recalls, with all the guarantees provided by law, and repaired, if necessary, by competent professionals.

Choosing second-hand appliances through GoRéemploi not only enhances environmental conservation and the local economy, but also offers consumers cost-effective, high-quality options that meet regulatory standards. This choice significantly furthers sustainability and supports community resilience.

By launching this program and encouraging citizens that are embracing second-hand options to turn to GoRéemploi, GoRecycle reaffirms its mission to recover refrigeration appliances responsibly, while having a significant impact on waste reduction and in the fight against climate change.

From the outset, GoRecycle has had the ambition to promote the reuse of functional appliances before responsibly recycling them at the end of their operational lifespan. Noticing significant inconsistencies among second-hand appliance vendors, we identified a need for reliable means of differentiating between those complying with regulatory standards. This led to the creation of GoRéemploi, a pioneering initiative that not only recognizes but also supports retailers committed to exemplary reuse practices. The GoRéemploi certification instills consumer trust and marks a significant development in the industry, making it the first national program of its kind.
