Why recycle your fridge?

To prevent the emission of one tonne of greenhouse gas

When a fridge is left on the side of the road or recycled improperly, it generates an average of one tonne of greenhouse gas.

1 t of GHG is equivalent to travelling by plane from Montréal to Barcelona

To protect nature

When you recycle your fridge responsibly, you ensure that the harmful materials inside it won’t pollute nature.

What’s inside your fridge?

Refrigerators contain harmful materials. Among other things, your fridge contains insulating foam (which contains gases), contaminated oil, refrigerant gases, plastics, metals, and glass.

When you entrust your appliance to GoRecycle, over 97% of these materials are recovered to make new products!

How is your fridge recycled?

We partner with PureSphera to process the fridges we receive. Once the appliances are collected and brought to the Bécancour recycling centre, the following steps are taken to recover materials:

Removing accessible components: easily accessible parts are removed manually.
Removing gases and oils: refrigerant gases, oils, the compressor, and certain pipes are removed.
Crushing the fridge: the appliance is sent to a vacuum machine where it is crushed. At this stage, the gases contained in the insulating foam are collected.
