Montreal, August 4 – Despite growing environmental concerns, three out of four Quebecers have never purchased a used refrigeration appliance. To address this situation, GoRecycle has developed GoRéemploi, an initiative that both reuse while standardizing practices: our goal is to give refrigeration and air conditioning appliances a second life. GoRecycle is the only organization recognized by RECYC-QUÉBEC for the responsible recycling of household refrigeration appliances. In implementing this program, GoRecycle is reaffirming its mission which is to responsibly recycle refrigeration appliances while making a significant impact on waste reduction and the fight against climate change.
The purchase of used appliances is gaining ground in Québec
A Léger survey reveals that 23% of Quebecers have already purchased a used refrigeration or air conditioning appliance (refrigerator, freezer, wine cellar, wine cooler, air conditioner, dehumidifier). Mistrust of the reliability of these appliances may serve as a barrier to such purchases. This perception is contrary to reality and is currently changing. There is a definite interest in purchasing used appliances, particularly refrigeration and air conditioning appliances.
GoRéemploi: an informed choice
GoRéemploi offers more than just a directory of sellers. The program brings together 36 points of sale that are part of the GoRéemploi network, from the Greater Montreal area to the Capitale-Nationale region (Greater Québec City), the Eastern Townships, Mauricie, Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, and the Laurentians.
Since its launch, we at GoRecycle have been looking for ways to help the reuse sector. We wanted to see more appliances get a second life before being sent on for responsible recycling by our authorized recyclers. We quickly noticed uneven practices in the industry and a need to recognize companies and organizations that follow best practices. That’s why we created the GoRéemploi program, a first in Canada, in order to identifies players committed to offering high-quality second-hand appliances.

Continuous expansion of our network

Our goal is to maximize the use of materials. We want to give appliances an infinite number of lives. When appliances are no longer used, they get recycled, and each component is then carefully sorted.
